Last October 9th we visited Barcelona’s Model old prison, together with the companions of the CEESC.
This guided visit for educators who worked there, beyond having merely been a cultural experience, allowed us to know closely the educator’s work inside the penitentiary centres, the working space and the relationship with the inmates.
We could see some of the emblematic elements of the prison, such as the courtyard, the gates and the access corridor; the panoptic; the fourth gallery and its courtyard; the parlour and the parcel delivery room.
We also visited the exhibition 13 Stories of the Model, located in the fifth gallery, which features 13 moments and 13 people or grups that are representative of the history of the prison and its connection to the history of the city and the country. Each one of them is associated to a date and a context or a theme, for example, the president Companys, Ferrer y Guàrdia, Puig Antich, the Catalan assembly or “el Vaquilla”.
